Excellent! Do we know if these awards are being shown on the web?
Also, guessing they might be up for a life time achievement award?
February 3rd, 2009 at 14:15

It’s a great track. Can’t wait to hear it live.

Re: Awesome Gosh
Wow, that’s disappointing to hear. Just curious, though, as to your feelings towards Playing The Angel?
February 4th, 2009 at 5:03
‘Awesome Gosh’ – the album is nothing like “Counterfeit²” or “Hourglass”
February 4th, 2009 at 5:09
To “Awesome Gosh”:
I had the same feeling when I first heard “Violator” in high school. Several hours after it was the best DM album I’ve ever heard. I’ve noticed… if you like something right away… it won’t last long in your memory. Masterpiece takes time to absorb.
February 4th, 2009 at 7:16
Dont listen to “Awesome”..he has NOT heard the album. Period.
February 4th, 2009 at 10:45
Looking online, it says the show will be broadcast on TV two hours *after* the live show.
February 4th, 2009 at 14:05
100% agree with you BEAtROOt! Anyone can come out and say “i just listened the new album, blablabla”.When Mute send a copy of “Playing” to the press & radios,it was also under a “undercover” name(Blackswarm). So he doesn’t know a thing about it.”Awesome” Gosh,if you heard it,then tell us the duration of each track, which one(s) (are)is the intrumental(s),etc…Anyway, you’re lying,PERIOD.
February 4th, 2009 at 15:08
Well, w’ll see. And it’s personally, personally I think that this one is going a great record.Surprising or not, for me DM is in 2009 a suprise..and i’m lloking forward to this album.DM see you in Dusseldorf & Pinkpop !!!!
February 4th, 2009 at 15:56
Awesome Gosh > They want to back on charts??? What charts do you have in your mind, MTV,radios ? Come on,world doesn’t know what is REAL music, nowadays people listening stupid music like Katty Perry, Rihanna ant etc… In one word – POP, POP means shit. Depeche Mode is for masses, they’re playing not for that stupid charts…
February 4th, 2009 at 18:20
I’m not sure what ‘real music’ is. I play Rihanna in my car as often as I do anything from Mode.
Awesome, why don’t you post a proper review of the CD? Explain why you think some tracks are good, some bad. What’s your opinion on the lyrical content? Is the music ‘energised and electic’, as the PR claims? We’re all dying for a proper review and you’d get oodles of respect if you post one.
February 4th, 2009 at 19:32
If you think PTA is a disaster except Lilian and Precious, then even if you really heard “Sounds…”,i can’t be agree with yoo.And what are these “4 good tracks” you like so much to mention(you could as well say anything…)?
February 4th, 2009 at 20:06
Awesome Gosh … you have not heard the new album.
Please piss off and troll elsewhere.
February 4th, 2009 at 20:25
Awesome Gosh haven´t heard the new album for sure. And he isn´t from Spain. So don´t pay attention to his lies.
February 4th, 2009 at 20:27
SOTU is excelent
February 4th, 2009 at 20:44
@Awesome Gosh:
Thanks for the response. I’m not going to get into a flame war whether you heard the album or not, but I was curious as to your opinions on PTA, since that was not only the last album, but also produced by Hillier and it would probably inform your opinion of SOTU.
Personally, I liked PTA quite a bit, with my only real problem with it being that it was way too front-loaded with the best songs first and then it kind of meanders a bit. Of course, I still like Ultra the best of the “post Alan” LPs, but PTA is a close second. Now that I know you weren’t a big fan of PTA, it makes me feel a bit better about your post. Thanks again for the reply.

Janus…please give more detail…

It’s amazing how a band like depeche mode that have been together for so long and have collected so many fans at different time points, attract people who like different aspects of their music.
For instance I agree that Lilian and Precious are the best songs on PTA. Therefore regardless of Awesome Gosh’s view of the album, it will likely not reflect the views of many.

@modefan:
“It’s amazing how a band like depeche mode that have been together for so long and have collected so many fans at different time points, attract people who like different aspects of their music.”
I think that’s the main argument between fans when it comes to Ultra. It was the first post-Alan album and I think it was jarring to some fans to not get the multi-layered sound that had been building over the years and peaked with SOFAD. I, on the other hand, think that Ultra is a collection of some of Martin’s greatest songs, so I tend to look past some of the technical shortcomings of the album as a whole.
Odds are good that if you liked PTA, you’ll more than likely like SOTU. This is just based on the fact that it’s the same production team and Hillier and the band have a familiarity with one another now. I’m excited to hear what they’ve come up with this time.

The distortion on playing the angel is meant to be there, its a part of the sound!. And this decibel issue is absolute bollocks,I listen to most of my music through a creative zen mp3 player with the volume on full and the album sounds great to me. Tracks such as the sinner in me are brilliant modern mode classics and that track worked brilliantly live. A pain that im used was an absolute belter, the production and “distorted” sounds worked just perfect.Precious was a really great song but i must confess I dont think it worked as a live track.to sum up I thought it was a terrific piece of music and a great addition to there history. They have got to inclued a pain that im used on this upcoming tour possibly as an encore.
February 4th, 2009 at 23:25
Enjoy the silence/personel jesus and never let me down again are completely amazing depeche mode classics and some of the most important songs in there history but i feel on this tour they need to be completely changed. With N-L-M-D-A i feel that a remixed version such as the digitlism mix would work,Cristian is an important part of the live show and the interaction between him and dave is fantastic but on certain mode tracks i feel that he could sit out a few, Behind the wheel doesnt gain anything from having a live drummer and could be performed completely on synths and not loose anything.Tracks such as i feel you and walking in my shoes clearly gain from a live drummer. Depeche have some real belters from there history that they could replace “ENJOY”,”NEVER” AND “PERSONEL” with I think RUSH would make a great encore maybe the spiritual mix, IF YOU WANT would be fantastic too. LOOKING SO FORWARD TO THE O2,HOPE AND PRAY FOR MORE BRITISH DATES,IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE A HOMECOMING ESSEX GIG MAY BE AT THE CHELMSFORD SHOWGROUND WITH YAZOO SUPPORTING(IM DREAMING NOW)…..LOVE THE MODE…….
February 4th, 2009 at 23:31
Hello awesome gosh, shame you didnt enjoy latest album but thats your opinion and thats fair enough.I am really happy with all of the modes output over the years ive liked them since 1984 and there music means absolutely everything to me. looking forward to “SOUNDS” and hopefully i will like it.
February 4th, 2009 at 23:35
AWESOME BEHAVE YOUR SELF!!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 0:50
@Awesome Gosh:
And that’s why I didn’t get too worked up about it. Even if you had listened to it and didn’t like it, that’s your opinion and everyone’s got ‘em. No need to jump down someone’s throat for it.
I remember an innocent gag I played on BONG during the Exciter phase: I posted “lyrics” to Freelove that referenced hookers, needing money, and not getting any “Freelove.” Some people actually thought they were real.
All in good fun.
February 5th, 2009 at 0:51
just a word; today, most of music records are mastered to make the sound louder.Check the “loudness war” article on wikipedia or the open letter Alan wrote on Side Line website,it’s interesting.
February 5th, 2009 at 1:13
I knew it all along! Awesome Gosh surely had everyone fooled here! ~Look at how many people have responded to this news post! I gotta say, KUDOS to you AG!!
As for me, I will abstain fro listening to audio snippets of the new album UNTIL I’ve got the Official, physical CD release in my possession! I will however listen to official audio, such as Wrong being performed at the Echo Awards Ceremony. Aside from official audio (i.e. single releases), I really want to experience the magic of listening to a DM record record for the first time (without all the user reviews of SotU to taint my opinion/impression of it).
Peace!
February 5th, 2009 at 3:34
Now.. seriously… when I can watch “Wrong” live on the net if I am in Calgary/Canada? Please tel1 me! Exact link and time for MT. Thanks fellas!
I knew it was a prank from AG) Thanks for playing on everyones’ nervs

February 5th, 2009 at 3:48
To CivilEngineer, from Elrectrical Engineer!
Since 1987 I’ve been listening new DM releases exactly the way you described: on physical CD and/or vinil. Alone and in headphones enjoying sound perfection of brand new material… without any reviews/comments prior to listnening of the album from beyond. Everytime I look at my full DM remaster collection… it’s like going through a precious family album. And yet another page is approaching fast! I’m sure lots of devouted DM fans can easily understand what I mean. Even my 7 y.o. daughter has her favorite DM tracks in her IPod: Black Celebration, Master and Servant.. I can go on and on)She even stared to play my KORG inspired by DM.
I just symply can not wait until Tour of the Universe! So is my wife and our little one!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:51
LOL, Awesome Gosh, you Bast”
A mix of Counterfeit and Hourglass, hahaha! when you first said that, I was like Noooo! it can’t be true, please God noooo! LOL. Anyway thanks for the joke, that made me realize how exited Im’ about this new release. By the way, I kind of agree with you about Playing The Angel, It could be better in many ways. But I have the feeling that this one will definitely blow us all away! Long Live Depeche Mode!
February 5th, 2009 at 17:11
Hey hey A-GOSH,i knew you didn’t heard the album,you didn’t PUNK’D me!! I’m not worried about SOTU,i’m confident in my men,DM :°)
February 5th, 2009 at 18:12
Awesome Gosh—-You are an idiot! You have way too much time on your hands. Quit being a troll.
If someone surfing these boards had it. Someone would have leaked it already. It hasn’t leaked. Radio does not have their copy of the single yet either.
February 5th, 2009 at 19:18
I think awesomeGosh Is an u2 fan so dont listen to him everyone knows spacewalker its intrumental. He hould know also that there are 2 instrumetal songs on the album, so AwesomeGosh keep you opinions to the U2 site for they’r new very bad single
February 5th, 2009 at 23:26
SOTU will kick ass, as for live I pray Christian will piss off for most of the tracks, BTW especially. no messing about either, sing things properly and with respect, like violation and devotional, I’m nitpicking, DM are the greatest band in the world. U2? utter bollocks
February 6th, 2009 at 3:27
dmbreand: Damn! I agree with you!
