That was interesting, - dare I say more interesting than the song which is not their best, quite weak for a 1st track from SOTU. Im hopeful the rest is better!!
Just seen the video.I thinks its really good.If i didn’t know the band or song i would watch it cause its kind of weird.Heard the song few times now and its really growing on
At first I thought it was going to be a stupid video…from the first watching. But as it went on, at about 30 seconds I started to realize it suits well to the song. Now I’ve already watched for 10 or more times and I think it’s great. But I’d wish Dave,Martin and Andy appeared often in the video (not only 5 seconds). But it’s still GREAT!!!
why does depeche mode make such bad videos this is garbage yet a
gain almost as bad as the I feel
loved and its no good. there is no way north american stations will air this for more than a day, come on guys WAKE UP!!!!!!!
and on other thing that bugs me when people here say its good when they know deep down in side that any first year person in a visual arts class could have done better with a cell phone video recorder
P.S I love the song but not the video!
Neither classics YET! Time will tell and could be a crowd pleaser come gig time?? Like the start/intro. The sounds used arnt particularly new or exciting and have an old school edge which I like. I am expecting much more and am sure we will all get great pleasure in the coming year.
the Wrong video is creepy and it does not fit well with Depeche Mode but with the song maybe it does… do we care for cinematic approach on music videos common’ it’s Rock n’ Roll not Oscars
This should have been an ‘I FEEL YOU’ kind of video, it’s absolute trash, I can’t get for a second who this aesthetic please some people. I’m not judging you, I just don’t get it, to me it sucks. Anton Corbijn should have been booked long ago to do the videos. They have no look anymore, it’s really pitiful.
me!!!!!!!
IN regard to the following comment: “”there is no way north american stations will air this for more than a day, come on guys WAKE UP!!!!!!!”"”"”
since when did north american stations EVER care about depeche mode?? NEVER, yet they are still successful. Quite frankly, i hope i never hear then on the radio or see them on TV.
Well, this video suits the song. The song suits the band. They just never stop with the off the beaten track kind of material that some of us love, some of us hate, but we all come back for more. Personally, this song is amazing and the video is well suited. You can almost imagine that the guy in the car is thinking what Dave is singing as he “drives” through the streets….totally out of control of his destiny….wondering How the eff did I gett myself into this situation….They really just never cease to amaze me with their art…all of it!
Great conceptual video that captures perfectly the dark, desperate tone of the lyrics. Looks nothing like a music video. I mean that in a good way. The horrible collective taste of the masses will dictate that for every viewing of “Wrong” some formulaic cliche video of T.I. or T.Pain surrounded by the requisite booty quaking hos as they conspicuously display their disposable income in the form of a leased Lamborghini Murcielago and a bottle of Crystal will be viewed 10,000X. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Unreal. It started as a crummy non-Corbijn video, but about a minute into it, I realized this was a guy in the wrong place, at the wrong time, in the wrong week, and it was SO right for the song. Well friggin done boys.
I do believe however that while we’ve seen plenty of smashed cars in DM videos, this would be the first homocide.
Both song & video are surprisingly average for DM. Song’s worth listening only for the sake of Dave’s voice. Can’t get it why they keep repeating others’ and themselves in what they do.
Great video. This video makes as much noise as the song. The video is an amazing match with the song and makes the viewer riveted as to what is gonna happen. Great work DM!!!!
The video is bizarre. Great choice of story to grab peoples attention and to tell everyone that Depeche is back. Lets face it…
Another Personal Jesus video might please the fans but in a world of Britney & Pink you have to come up with something different to stand out.
I think the song stands out - i think the video stands out.
Much more than “Precious” and “Dream On” did when they were released as 1st singles.
Great and understandable choice from Depeche Mode.
The video is good, the idea is great. The only thing is again the car appearing as the main focus of the clip. The car has been an icon for mode´s a lot of times in the past. As far as I remember Stripped, Never Let Me Down Again, Violator videos, Dream On… Pretty much the same, but this time the idea wins vs the car.
What is a “real” DM song? And”This is not the Depeche Mode of old”:SURE!They’re not gonna decline to infinity trough their entire career their past songs.D’you really know what they’re about? And if Depeche Mode was making music just for money, they wouldn’t wait 4 years or bother with side projects. In the 80’s they’d put out an album almost every year(do you think it was for money?).For information, they’re 47(Fletch,Gore)and 46(Dave).And what the hell is the problem with wearing a leather jacket at 40 something year old, even at 60?
their [sic] 48 yrs old, why are they still wearing leather jackets
What would you prefer they wore, cardigans?
Come on, Wrong is the most interesting and challenging song they’ve done for years and the video is crazy (crazy wonderful). Both song and video blow way most of the garbage you can see on MTV at present.
Quadro..completely agree with you, who is dave to comment on whether they wear leather jackets!!I think Dave and Martin look better than they have in ages and look like they haven’t aged that much…Fletch on the other hand LOL…Can’t see this vid getting much daytime air play!!!
Remember Dave’s Kingdom?
I’m not sure that style suits DEPECHE.
It’s static, full of weird contrasts, no colors…;storyboard from Need for Speed Underground wroom wroom backwards.
It looks like some stupid game (of life).
DM’s statement with this video:
Life’s f* stupid and we’re all f*cked.
Wow. That’s…..GENIUS!
DM traded commercial success for ugly truth no one can digest hehe. I guess they can afford it and I hope fans can take it. The World…is f*cked anyway.
Ivan, I don’t think DM are being quite as negative as you suggest. I personally take the song to be rather tongue in cheek - and if anything it’s saying the bad stuff that happens is your own fault, not everyone else’s. The video implies the same thing.
As for trading commercial success: DM is a cult, and have achieved long-term success by staying just outside the mainstream. I think most of the fans are lapping this up and this song/vid have probably secured many more years of devotion when many of us were wondering if they could still excite us.
Yeah. Dave explained in his radio interview that for the first video they wanted something totally different; out-of-the-box meaning - no Anton; meaning - some kind of visual shock for da fans.
Okay…I appreciate Wrong more now.
As for commercial side of things: 100% of fans+ will watch the vid on various tubes rather than on some shi**y no relevance emteevee.
DEPECHE are a mainstream of their own and simply don’t give a #*.
Now that’s Rock an Roll!
The song is the best in years, at least since SOFD, its original, dark and edgy something that has been deeply missing since Wilder left. The Video is very interesting.
To you those who think they are clever picking it apart forget that this is 2009 and DM have to move on! it aint 1990! By the way, I bought their first single in 1980…
It’s a decent song, but it doesn’t really open up. But then again, neither does the blues. Personally, I think DM was at it’s best with Alan on board as arranger because, let’s face, Alan had a better grasp on what to do with Martin’s songs and Dave’s voice than any of these producers. I miss songs like “Never Let Me Down Again” that would progress, open up melodically and arrangement wise, but that was 22 years ago and DM has every right to move on…
An incredibly sly video. Simple. Jarring. Very John Carpenter. Mr Corbijn is busy making his second feature film. I’d love to see what Chris Cunningham or Spike Jonze could do with them. Imagine!
I think the motto of Depeche is:
Move on, or move off!
They’re still around so…they must be moving on. Who wouldn’t???
I mean with all these analogue synths and stuff…’space travel’ for sure.
dM have never actively tried to appeal to any kind of audience. As Ivan says, you’re either with us or you’re not. I have never ever heard or seen anything by the band that would suggest they are trying to lead or follow or appeal to anyone else or indeed try to be something they are not. What is ridiculous is to worry about a leather jacket, for crissakes. Dave’s been wearing leather forever! Hardly a new (fast) fashion statement is it? They are what they are…if you like it, they like that - if they don’t, I’m pretty much sure they don’t give a hoot.
This video is more like a David Fincher(seven)or a Phillip Noyse(the bone collector) movie. Well like I said before I do like the song but, honestly I think they could have used a different producer this time for this new album, someone maybe like ”Flood” again. Anyway Hopefully SOTU will be a great album, but I had higher expectations for Wrong as the first single.
Good video, but I am kinda worried about “Wrong” being the lead single off the album. On first listen it doesn’t sound strong enough, but how often does it take you a 2nd or 3rd listen, for you to suddenly realise you like it…. I’m celebrating Xmas on 20 April this year!
Why everybody’s obssessed with Flood?Ok,he produced two of DM’s best albums, but still…And there’s no one “like Flood”,Maxmode, period.I agree that SOTU will be a great album.
oMg stop comparing new depeche albums to the old ones…they always try to produce something new and they do….and it’s very good every time so shut the **** up and enjoy SOTU (when it comes out) or stop being annoying…this forum is for DM fans not for haters (who are very stupid if they don’t like’em)… DM THE BEST!
If this album goes *wrong*, they should sack Hillier (in a #* car).
I want Playing the Angel pt.2. Nothing more, nothing less.
They must have kept Hillier for Playing the Angel pt.2, right?
Or at least to continue the energy they had with Playing the Angel. Playing the Angel. I love Playing the Angel. Playing the Angel iz goood, no?
By the way, have you folks seen clip#11 of diabolical Depeche DUO horsing around in the studio? Boy oh boy. There’s a good reason why studios are confined and isolated: so you don’t have to hear the SH* going on inside. But hey! Herrrrres FletchCam to strip the foolishness to the bone. hahaha. And fans seem to like that??? We’re all fools for DM.
Good init!? Nice to see something a bit more edgy rather than the usual Anton stuff. It’s the first DM single (probably ever) where I was so taken by the video first play that I paid more attention to the visuals and had to go back and play it again in order to listen properly.
well whatever- it still is a very disappointing comeback single! i just want to feel the hairs stand up on the back of my neck the way they use too when dm put a new single out!they need to dig deeper into their creative souls!!
Ulysses, everyone has a right to an opinion, whether he doesn’t like it or I like it, it’s not a matter of ‘judging’. Nobody has to like anything just because (you say so.)
WRONG is such a unique sounding song,A brilliant choice for a first single its loud brash and in your face, LIVE this song will kick some serious butt. BARRELL OF A GUN would be the perfect song live after WRONG as it has the same PUNK like energy and sound. Havnt heard wrong played on british radio yet ,has any one else?
Pinju, you’re absolutely right, an opinion is always necessary, sorry, I’ve just felt that some fellows exaggerated in words. It’s the voice of disappointment…
This is the best music that I listen in my life. I heard you since I am 11 elven years old and I will listen you all my life, thanks Dave, Martin and Andy…..And I think so that I seem you very soon in Peru.
Sounds like they’ve just ripped off the baseline form Visage’s ‘Fade To Grey’ Oh dear! Sounds like they’ve knocked this one up in an afternoon. Video’s is pretty pants too!
As quite often, Depeche releases not the best track as their first single. I’m pretty sure the next will be a stronger song. I’ve already preordered their delexe 3CD+DVD package!
February 25th, 2009 at 18:03
this guy had no luck:)
February 25th, 2009 at 18:22
What a great dark video, I think this is my favorite mode video i have ever seen..
February 25th, 2009 at 18:35
One of their best videos…LOVE IT!
February 25th, 2009 at 18:42
Appears that the director recently enjoyed some of the SAW movies.
February 25th, 2009 at 18:42
That was interesting, - dare I say more interesting than the song which is not their best, quite weak for a 1st track from SOTU. Im hopeful the rest is better!!
February 25th, 2009 at 18:53
Absolutely adore the video, best they have done in years. For some reason I kept thinking of the film, Halloween
Does anybody know what part of New York the video was filmed ?
Thanks.

February 25th, 2009 at 19:16
The video goes well with the darkness of the song which I consider is one of the strongest songs of Depeche Mode, can’t stop listening to it.
February 25th, 2009 at 19:22
great song one of they’r best and great video
February 25th, 2009 at 19:39

POOR WRITTEN SONG, COULD BE BETTER.

its no corbijn classic, but its great. so glad it wasnt another a pain that im used to!( fab song but no way a depeche video, load of shite)

February 26th, 2009 at 0:37
I agree with me!!!!! , this is not a real depeche mode interview, not a real depeche mode song.
it scares me, this is not the depeche mode of old, not even the depeche from playing the angel.
now depeche mode seem like their a bunch of guys in their late 40’s who are still making music/touring for financial reasons.
their 48 yrs old, why are they still wearing leather jackets?
February 26th, 2009 at 0:38

As quite often, Depeche releases not the best track as their first single. I’m pretty sure the next will be a stronger song. I’ve already preordered their delexe 3CD+DVD package!
