Sean, I don’t mean to be rude. But cancer is the end path for smokers. It has always been. I think everybody needs to grow up and stopping treating human beings as gods. I really like Gareth’s work and he’s very talented but reality check came now. I have seen an interview with Andy Bell and Vince Clarke and those two guys smoke & drink quite a lot. They’ve been doing these for so many years they shouldn’t be surprised to develop ill conditions. I want Gareth to get well but I also want him to re-evaluate some bad habits, there is a limit to as a human being can help killing himself.

djzn,
There are many forms of cancer that are not caused by smoking or drinking. Cancer can be the result of nothing else other than genetic make-up and hereditary predisposition to the disease. It’s a bit lame to automatically assume that he brought the disease upon himself by smoking or drinking.

he’s got tongue cancer dude, 99% of that comes from smoking. and I am sure he smokes quite a lot. that doesn’t mean I don’t want him well, but this is just like the teenage girl getting pregnant… who told her to have sex so early

djzn,
Yes, the type of cancer he has, called “Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma” (on his tongue in this case), usually results from smoking or drinking alcohol. For those who don’t know, here’s a page discussing this particular disease:
http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec08/ch093/ch093e.html
But I have a question djzn: how do you for sure he’s a smoker? The disease is usually caused by smoking, but not always. And if you knew he was a smoker, why did you ask in the first place?
Secondly, about your comment “people who smoke should get a life”. Are you saying that Gareth has no life? No offense intended, but how many albums have you produced and how many important artists have you worked with? I ask because you must be in quite a position to accuse somebody like Gareth of having no life, and must be a saint to lecture all of us on the dangers of smoking. You must be perfect yourself, right?

djzn… you really are a prick!
sort yourself out.
