Via dlisted: Hilary Duff has a new video out for her song “Reach Out,” which completely samples rips off Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus.” No. No. No. This is illegal, right? A ho like Hilary Duff can’t just take a Depeche Mode song, rip it to shreds, violate it and spit all over it! Something must be done! I want to reach out and slap her.
Hilary Duff - Reach Out - Official Music Video Premiere
When I turn off the sound, the video isn’t that bad. But Hilary Duff is trying to bring the sexy and it isn’t really working. It’s like a cutesy chipmunk, putting on lingerie and trying to sex you with their eyes. It’s a little uncomfortable.
After you listen to that abomination above, wash your ears out with this:

Couldn’t agree more! Yikes!!!

Martin has to be credited as co-songwriter on this, so he’ll get a decent portion of the proceeds at least - right?

It’s not really that bad…

Nevermind, the video is awful! :O
I guess I meant the song wasn’t that bad, lol.

Pretty sure what she has done is considered a “derivative work.” Anyone can apply for a license to do so. And apparently ANYONE did. Yuck and yuck. The good news is that deals like this can sometimes give the original writer 75% of the copyright to the new song and a decent amount of money as well.
And that concludes music licensing 101 for today.

I have no words to describe my disgust >_<

Not the first time SUgababes did a murder of Gary Numan’ CARS and then had the audacity to say they’d never heard of him or his song. But it’s cars with their own words!!!
As for no UK northern dates, unlike times past I will find it hard to get to gigs this year, been to germany to see them before. I think it’s a big snub to their fans and a big shame….

Actually; the Sugababes sampled the classic “Are Friends Electric?”, not “Cars”

not only does she rip off depeche mode she uses the change in the chorus that Jamelia used in her sample/rip off…and this is way worse than her version-_-
November 10th, 2008 at 17:33
Horrible! I turned it off in 30 seconds.

wow, people get your own ideas!!!
This is terrible!! I wonder what Mr. Wilder has to say.

Can hardly call it a ‘rip-off’, but it’s not as though she’s tried to pass off DM’s work as her own. It’s dire, yes, but DM are quoted as tags on her MySpace page.
I’m assuming an envelope of monies has passed from her record company over to Mute/EMI to enable this song to ever see the light of day.

WTF…

“It’s no good.” Very very uncool. The video is not making any sense to me cause what is the point having people at the beginning running semi-nude? Pointless. The rapper — who the hell is he? Kevin Federline? I did not understand one word from the ‘unknown’. Rubbish! Her voice is desperate for an upgrade.

Such a stupid girl…not even behind a weel;))So I guess that Depeche gaved her the agreement to do this song…didn’t they?
All right reserved..so..Personal jesus will always be Personal jesus,no matter (my opinion)…:P

Well - the only possible reason that could make the existence of this turd forgiveable, is if the Hillary Duff (or is it dud ?) generation goes out and buys Violator… But that’s kind of unlikely, isn’t it. So it really is just plain unforgiveable.

What a shame, and horror.

It is a shame. DM is art, this sucks!

She has a best of album?

I can’t believe I thought it was good at first. It really really sucks now. She can’t even sing.
