Album opener and first single, Push Push, is a hauntingly gritty and atmospheric track that instantly makes one think of Eigner’s 2005 solo record, Recovery, on which Florian also sang on a couple of songs. It’s a great track, and the obvious single pick.
June 23rd will see the launch of Compact Space’s debut album. Compact Space is, as most of you will undoubtedly know by now, the new project formed by Mode-alumni Christian Eigner and Daryl Bamonte with lead singer Florian Kraemmer. By now, Christian Eigner and Daryl Bamonte need little introduction to most of you because of their close and continuing work with Depeche Mode. And now, along with vocalist Florian Kraemmer, they are a trio better known as Compact Space! Their first album is called “Nameless” and it will be released on 24th June 2011! It isn’t often a band manages to capture my attention right off the bat, but Compact Space certainly managed it. Before learning more about the band, the debut single, “Push Push”, struck a chord – it felt both very familiar and entirely fresh. A feeling that was quickly explained when I learned who was behind this charming record.
Who’s Compact Space, and why should you care? Well, Compact Space is a band featuring Christian Eigner, Daryl Bamonte and Florian Kraemmer. The first two should sound familiar to any and all Mode fans. The trio started writing together in 2008. The first single ‘Push Push’ is available on iTunes and Amazon right now (link below), and a remix by Andrew Phillpott is still to come, and the album is due to be released at the end of the year.
